Characteristics and trends in the security environment

Educational goals:

  • to outline the basic characteristics of the current security environment;
  • to highlight selected trends and factors affecting the shape and nature of the security environment.

Contents:

The current global security environment is constantly undergoing dynamic changes. However, there are some specific determinants and trends which will keep the importance also in the coming decades. Special attention in this theme is devoted to changes of the armed conflict, to the asymmetric position of the U.S., to the duality of the state sovereignty and protection of human rights, as well as to the importance of non-military threats (especially proliferation, terrorism, cyber terrorism, etc.), and other facts.
